Alexis was one of my adorable First Year Plan babies. Every three months during her first year of life she’d come see me for her milestone photos. I got to watch her grow from a tiny newborn, to a smiling three month old, to a sitting 6 month old, a standing 9 month old and finally a cake smashing one year old! Watching her grow was such a joy!
Alexis’ mommy chose to celebrate her birthday with a nautical themed first birthday cake smash. I made a banner with whales and anchors, and Alexis sat in my little boat prop for her first birthday portraits. Her little sailor dress was too cute!
When it came time for the cake smash, poor Alexis was less than thrilled with the idea. She wasn’t really a fan of the cake, but with the help of a little red spoon we managed some cute shots anyway. For some babies, the feeling of the frosting is so completely different than anything they’ve experienced and it can be a bit surprising!
Bath time after the cake smash was a different story! Alexis loved her clean up time and splashed and smiled. I always let the parents of my cake smashers know that there’s a reason we do both the cake smash photos and bath photos. Usually if a baby really dislikes one part of the session, he or she will LOVE the other. Alexis proved this and gave us a bunch of adorable bath time photos!
Cake smashes are one of my favorite types of sessions. I love the creativity of planning and designing a set and getting to be part of baby’s first birthday celebrations.
