Capturing Baby’s Expressions in Classic Portraits

One of my favorite new ways of capturing newborns is through black and white newborn photos. I rarely turn my regular images black and white because I just love them so much in color. Recently I started working on a new offering to capturing baby’s unique expressions in black and white.

Part of what makes these new Baby Expressions so adorable is that baby is awake the whole time! That’s a departure from typical newborn photography because we usually like to keep babies sleepy and snug. For these special black and white newborn photos we let baby stay awake and with a little help from mom (and sometimes dad!) we capture all of those sweet faces. Tiny yawns, grimaces, and sweet little smirks look precious and timeless in black and white. Expression images invariably end up being a favorite with parents and grandparents because they show so much of baby’s unique personality!

Baby Expressions are done at the very end of your newborn session, right before we say goodbye and they can be done during any regular newborn session.

A few years ago I did a fun pizza themed cake smash for Aria’s big brother. I was lucky enough to get called to another cake smash for this sweet family when it was Aria’s turn. 

Aria’s mom really loved the idea of a mermaid themed cake smash and she sent me some sample images so we could get on the right track with the set. We ended up using a blue, purple and green color scheme which worked so perfectly with Aria’s mermaid outfit. 

Aileen’s Cake Decor provided a perfect smash cake for us, which was a beautiful match to the set! 

Aria was a fun cake smasher! She got messy, tried to crawl through the cake, and at the end even let out a little “roar” that she was done! I’m so glad I got to celebrate her first birthday with her! Her mermaid themed cake smash was just perfect!
